This morning I followed a toddler into the library who was wearing a penguin hat. Needless to say he was greeted like Moses parting the Red Sea. Everyone stopped what they were doing to say hello as he toddled by stuffed into his puffy snow suit jacket, mittens dragging on the floor — held onto his jacket by well frayed pieces of yarn.
He moaned to get the door opened for him. He grunted and pointed at the television screen. His chocolate brown eyes searched the onlookers in wonder, not surprised that the world stopped to welcome him with a smile and a giggle.
This little penguin is enjoying every moment and is certainly not worrying whether or not he is going to get a good seat at story time or if he’s going to even like the story. This is a kid in his element.
Often we forget to enjoy each moment because we are too busy worrying about what the story is going to be. Take a deep breath and think penguins. It may help..
